Just like gardeners wait for garden season or fisherman waiting for fishing season, shoplifters are priming themselves for this year’s holiday season. …Tis the Season! A new study conducted by Ad Week shows that 1 in 11 holiday shoppers, shopping at any store, leaves with at least one item that they didn’t pay for. They also found that the “art of shoplifting” is up by 6% this year.
If those stats are correct, retailers could lose around… $119-billion dollars of merchandise this year alone! It’s no wonder retailers have to raise prices. In the end, we all pay for things shoplifters steal.
So, who’s shoplifting? …About 75% of the shoplifters are adults with jobs.
Like most of us typically do every year… we search for the holiday deals and hunt for prime parking spots on Black Friday just to save $5 maybe more, but this amount of theft is both surprising and sad to me.
Is it a sign of the times? Is unemployment and Loss of Jobs, turning good moms and dads into thieves to make their kids happy on Christmas? Is the economy so bad that even people with jobs. can’t afford to buy presents because all their hard earned money goes toward food, gas for the car and higher utility bills?
Let’s see what people are actually stealing. Here the Top 10 List of the items getting stolen the most compiled by AdWeek… I have to say, there’s things on this list that I would have never guessed:
Filet Mignon – So many people are tucking choice cuts of meats under their jackets that supermarkets are now considered the stores with the most theft.
Jameson – Those with an unquenchable thirst for booze just help themselves to a free bottle of expensive liquor.
Electric tools – Apparently the the most common items men nab are electric toothbrushes and power tools. At least they’re fighting cavities.
iPhones 4- Electronics like smartphones and video games are high risk items, and one research group claims 100,000 laptops are stolen annually from big box stores.
Gillette Mach 4- Anyone who uses non-disposable razors knows they’re pretty expensive, so in tough financial times people don’t want to pay for them anymore.
Axe – The men’s deodorant and body wash we love to hate are often stolen in mass quantities and resold at flea markets and corner stores. Dial is popular amongst thieves too.
Polo Ralph Lauren – Clothing theft is up 31 percent since 2009. It’s hard to look good in a bad economy, so some score fresh threads the illegal way.
Lets Rock Elmo
Let’s Rock Elmo – The Sesame Street toy topped the Toys’R’Us “Hot Toys” list this year, so parents are stealing this must-have toy for their kids if they can’t afford it.
Chanel No. 5 – Who wouldn’t love a bottle of this popular woman’s fragrance? Expensive perfumes make up nearly four percent of loss in stores that carry them.
Nike Shoes – As Ad Week points out, some shoppers wear flip-flops into a store, try on a pair of sneakers, and walk out wearing them. Sneaker heads will do whatever it takes to score the kicks on their wish list.
I find it very interesting that 75% of the shoppers are adults? Seems to me teenagers would make up a big percentage, but then again… I bet most stores watch them closer or they are just better at not getting caught.
To me… a few thoughts come to mind. Number one: if you stole something to give to a friend, relative or even your own child, does it really mean anything to you? Yea it maybe made a child smile, but you have to be thinking about how you got that item every time you see it. Wouldn’t the gift be more special knowing that you made a sacrifice getting it?
Number two: Is it really worth spending time in jail during the holidays. Is it really worth getting a criminal record over? Maybe not for some people, but to me it’s too big of a risk… my heart races just thinking about the act of stealing something. I’m sure I’d have a heart attack before actually I got out of the store if I ever tried it… I’m mean really, there are cameras everywhere these days and they are NOT going to bust you until you’re outside the store, so I think it’s pretty hard to pull these crimes off anymore and you’re gonna get caught sooner or later.
Number three: Christmas is about giving… not stealing. Let’s not forget the real meaning of Christmas no matter what religion you practice.

…I read many reviews and looked at the all 5 ratings in Amazon before I decided to order this Vita-Mix Professional Series Blender. It arrived on time for our party. I decided to use for the very first time it to grind coconut chutney. Within 3 min. it had a thermal shutdown for 45 min as mentioned in the manual. I was heart broken and fell back to my Sumeet blender (costs about $100) from India. It did the job without a hick up as usual. I thought of returning it for money back. It is still within 30 days. I think I have changed my mind and decided to just keep it along with my Sumeet blender. This sure makes amazing smoothies and margaritas in record time.
With the blade spinning at 240 miles an hour, I didn’t doubt that it would struggle to grind coconut but it did.
…I’ve used the Vita-Mix Professional Series Blender to make hemp smoothies..which makes the best hemp smoothie, blends up homemade baby food very very well..crushes ice wonderfully…but have not used it for any of the recipes in book yet. Hopefully soon All in all a very good quality professional blender, very happy with this purchase.

I have owned a lot of blenders and this one is very impressive. I was tempted to give it 4 stars as it is not the best blender I have ever owned. That distinction goes to the Vita-Mix which has a nuclear reactor for a base, sounds like a Harley and cost as much as a microwave but if you need a blender that can crush anything and make flour and HOT soup….well….but back to the KitchenAid Blender.
First it looks great. As a home chef, having a sleek modern looking kitchen is important. Second it is easy to clean… I will never own a push button (i.e. old Oster-type) blender again. Nor one with a multi piece jar. One leak can and has ruined an evening or party, as you run to grab paper towel and dish clothes to control the margarita or soup that is running across your counter and down your cabinets. Then the fun of cleaning your blender nooks begin….grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Now the really impressive part. I have owned a Waring for years. Everyone always raves about it and if you have a thin liquid, it works great. But for crushing ice and making smoothies, it just flat out sucks. So I sought out an ice crushing (margaritas), sealed jar (gravies/soups), lightweight, large capacity (parties), easy touch (easy to clean), piece of art. The KitchenAid Blender is all those things and has a logic built in that controls the blade speed. It knows how well it is crushing the ice and modulates the motor to ensure an even snow like texture that is incredible. The same system is also built into the other modes, measuring resistance to step the motor up, then back it down to ensure smooth results.
This is my first KitchenAid Blender product, but it will not be my last. BRAVO

If you’re into crushed ice and smoothie type drinks, this is easily the best one I’ve found. It reduces ice cubes to a smooth slush in just seconds. The “crush ice” mode pulses on and off to crush the ice quickly and few more seconds at a higher speed smooths it out and adds some air volume. It also looks very sleek, so won’t mind leaving it out on your bar or in the kitchen.

All-in-all… most people were very satisfied with the KitchenAid Blender. It looks nice and operates well for most all uses. The only thing most people were complaining about is the plastic jar. Some said it leaked, others said it didn’t hold up for long term usage. I feel this is a solid blender and a much better blender than the cheap ones you find in Walmart or Target and much less money than the big commercial blenders which are over $300 and up.

Directions
If you don’t have a juicer at home, you can just add all the fresh fruits and vegetables into the blender with a little extra good clean water if needed. If you do have your own juicer, start with organic produce; the fresher the produce, the more juice it will yield. You can juice the fruits and vegetables an hour ahead of time. You can also freeze the juice in ice cube trays.

– 6 oz frozen organic unsweetened raspberries
– 6 oz frozen organic unsweetened blueberries
– 1/2 cup slivered almonds

It is not necessary to use a lot of avocado to enhance absorption of fat-soluble nutrients. As little as 1 teaspoon of avocado is enough. Avocados are high in fat, but they also deliver a day’s supply of magnesium, and half a day’s supply of fiber!

1 ripe avocado, halved and pitted
1 cup soymilk
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
3 tablespoons blue agave
8 ice cubes
Directions
Combine the avocado, soymilk, yogurt, blue agave, and ice cubes in a blender; blend until smooth.
How do you know if your avocado is ripe? Test for ripeness by cradling the avocado in the palm of your hand. If it yields to gentle pressure, it is ready to serve.
How do you slice an avocado? Slice the fresh avocado lengthwise, cutting around the pit. Twist the halves in opposite directions. Do not remove the pit unless you intend to use the entire avocado at once. Simply take a spoon and scoop the avocado from the shell and into the blender.
